It might have been a Silly Syclopedia but this 1905 book had a complete set of drop cap images. All had light letters on black backgrounds with pretty curlicues and heart-shaped leaves.

Bekentenissen is what I’m calling an undated work that Gutenberg.org says is in the public domain in the USA. It had several nice letters including this one.

Dulce Nombre was published in 1921. It included this letter T image that features a large white letter on a black background, decorated with roses and leaves.

The Strand Magazine had only a few letter images in the February 1904 edition. The black and white line drawings could be easily colorized.

In 1891, railroad travel was exciting and new. Going out west made it even more so. This letter image shows the beauty of the west, train travel and, of course, a nice letter T image to tie it all together.

The Echos of Old Lancanshire may have quieted since 1899 but this lovely letter image remains behind. It looks as if someone took one of the more common letter designs and made it their own by expanding the letter outside of the original borders.
